Wayne Levi's wearing some different footwear than everybody else.
The part-time Naples resident, who shot a 6-under 66 on Friday, has been wearing tennis shoes this year to combat a painful right foot injury.
"What it's affecting is walking. it's so much better now than when I was wearing golf shoes,'' he said before heading to the range on Friday. "My right foot was so sore; my right big toe was so sore, it was affecting my swing.
"After a while, you know the pain is coming. I didn't mind the pain. That's fine, but you know it's coming and it affects the way you swing. You kind of back off it, you kind of swing with your arms a little more to compensate for it a little bit and it screws up your game.''
Levi had a group waiting for him after his first round, and he's enjoying his time in Naples. He came down in November and did some work for WCI Communities, one of his sponsors, and came back at the beginning of January. He said he'll probably stay through April.
