Now is the best time to remodel

Posted October 5, 2007

I recently went on an appointment to look at updating a kitchen in a high-rise condominium. If wasn't an overly complicated appointment. We mostly discussed how best to update the kitchen so the owner could place the condo on the market.

Everything was going great until it was brought to her attention that everything she wanted done could not be completed by November 1st.

Most condominium associations do not allow work during "season." That means no workers are allowed in the buildings form November to May.

However, it seems the "snow birds" are coming earlier and staying longer so many associations are adjusting their rules. I am currently finishing an outdoor kitchen in a building that requires all work be completed by October 15th.

While this is bad news for condominium owners, it is great news for owners of single-family homes.

If you already know that you are going to be going out of town for Thanksgiving then now is the time for you to start your remodeling project.

You may find that your project will progress faster than other times of the year since there will probably be less time spent waiting on subcontractors such as plumbers, tile installers and trim carpenters.
