Every Drop Counts
Posted January 17, 2008
As some of the toughest water restrictions take effect across many areas we have no choice but to pay attention to how we are using water, and how we may be wasting it.
Here are some tips to help conserve water.
*Install a low flow toilet.
*Replace deteriorated flapper valves in toilets.
*Repair dripping faucets.
*Replace shower heads with low-flow types.
*Cover flower beds with a layer of mulch to reduce soil evaporation.
*Cover pools and spas to reduce evaporation of water.
*Wash your car at a car wash were water is reclaimed.
*Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Dispose of tissues, insects and other such waste in the trash.
*Operate dishwashers and clothes washers only when they are fully loaded or properly set the water level for the size of load you are using.
*Insulate your water pipes. You'll get hot water faster plus avoid wasting water while it heats up.
*Don't let the faucet run while you clean vegetables, brush your teeth or shave.
*Catch the cold water that comes out of the tap while you are waiting for the hot water and use it to water plants.
*Don’t pre-rinse dishes before you place them in the dishwasher.
*Bathe your young children together.
*Cook food in as little water as possible.
*Use an electric razor to shave.
