Need a new refrigerator, dishwasher or clothes washer? As part of the economic stimulus plan, the federal government has allocated $300 million for the Cash for Appliances rebate program that will put $50 to $200 (per appliance) in your pocket for getting rid of your old, worn out appliances and buying new, energy-efficient models.
The State of Florida will implement a mail-in rebate program to help residents replace older, inefficient appliances with ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances. This program will launch April 16, 2010, and conclude on April 25, 2010. It is timed to coincide with Florida’s Earth Day Activities.
You may only receive rebates on the purchase of one of each type of ENERGY STAR appliance per address. In additional to the rebate for purchasing the ENERGY STAR appliance, you can also receive an additional $75 if you provide evidence of having recycled the old appliance. That evidence may consist of a statement on the retailer receipt indicating pick-up of the old appliance or a receipt from the local public or private landfill of delivery of the old appliance.
Eligible Products
Florida will offer rebates on the following six (6) ENERGY STAR appliances:
Refrigerators
Freezers
Washing machines
Dishwashers
Room air conditioners (not central air conditioners)
Gas tank-less hot water heaters.
Key Information
Demand for the upcoming energy-efficient appliance rebates is expected to be so strong that state officials will require you to get a reservation first on-line.
Have a specific idea what you intend to buy, because the appliance, model and price will be required to reserve an application spot. On-line purchases are not eligible. You should learn immediately if you secured a reservation to apply for one of the 66,000 rebates. Households may claim up to $1,500 in rebates. With a reservation, all rebates must be submitted by May 10. Rebates will be mailed in the form of American Express debit cards.
Check the state’s website for updates on the reservation process.
