Regular season just ended. We ended up 74-64. I am extremely happy with the way our guys played. We battled through injuries, call-ups, and other adversities to get here. These boys definitely deserve the playoffs.
First round was best of three against the Peoria Chiefs. We won the first game 2-0, lost the second 6-1, and just finished the third game and won 4-3. We managed only 11 hits total in the 3 games, but made them count. We start the semi-finals tomorrow in another best of three series against the Kane County Cougars (Jerry Smith if you are up there at all let me know).
These guys have far outdone the expectations placed upon them. It is amazing what guys can achieve when you believe in them, and what kind of confidence they get. It has been a fun season. It will take five more wins to win a championship, but we always take one game at a time, in fact one pitch at a time.
This team has kind of got a saying when it is time to play, and it simply is “Weigh In”. This means turn your focus in, time to get things done and play ball. I will keep everybody informed on how we do, and I will be home very soon. I cannot wait to get up to date with everyone real soon. I will be working with the kids as soon as I get back.
Have some new ideas and as always want to make this game as enjoyable for them as it is for me. No matter what yor job is, you never stop doing three things: listening, learning and improving. If you do not do this, this game or your job will pass you by. If you have a passion for something, the people around you will too. Also if you work hard, so will others around you.
Players, just like employees, take the mold of the manager, and the surroundings around them.
Just tid-bits learned from a long season.
Also, positive comments hit the heart, negative comments hit the nerves. After all these players I have, are just kids ( I have to remind myself of this) 18 to 23 years old. There is always something good you can find out of each and every one of them, each game, and each day. Take care, and see you soon. Tough games ahead.
