Collier voters off and running; 10 percent of electorate used early voting, absentee ballots

Collier County Elections Supervisor Jennifer Edwards reported just after 9 a.m. today that polls opened on time and few, if any, problems were noted by pollworkers. Edwards said calls were being received on a hotline set up to answer voters' questions and that approximately 10 percent of the electorate (7,000 on early voting and 12,000 via absentee ballot) had already been received. The biggest challenge for voting officials today, Edwards said, is the transition to the new scanning voting machines over the past touch-screen models.
