Sustainable Tour 2009--Heidi von Korff, Civil Engineer, saw an opportunity that could have been a negative and made it a positive. She runs her own green business, and felt that it was a God given opportunity. Her beliefs have always been about keeping the environment how we found it, and about living a healthy lifestyle. SustainableCivil, is just that, sustainable engineering and green building consulting based in lovely Southwest Florida. It is about creating environments that are smart, innovative, and green.
In mid April she took to the road to learn first hand about the progression of the green building industry in the Western United States. The “Sustainable Tour Across North America” was born. She has traveled 9000 miles so far across country from her home state of Florida. She wanted to talk to locals, see what the economy is doing, find out where the American Recovery Act or stimulus money is providing the other states, connect and build relationships with green business, venture to the Pacific Northwest, get hands on information on what the 'real' United States is happening during this unusual time. Her generation is folks that have never felt a hit of a great depression and kids that just graduated from college still looking for work. She wanted to take opportunity and roll with it....
It is now August and she has just done that! Met some terrific folks along the way, connected with the local green business industry, saw the aftermath of Greensburg, KS, visited the First Carbon Neutral Vineyard, seen the greenest school in the country, even drove an eco-friendly BMW Hydrogen 7 series car, and much more. It has been a great education and field trip and a once in a lifetime opportunity so far. So Sustainable Tour Across North America is continuing throughout the Pacific Northwest and heart of the Green Movement.
She has a blog, she is on Twitter, and is on Facebook. Using Social Media to connect with the world. She has been contacted by NBC and NPR about an entrepreneur paving a way for her future and discovering her passion for life.
