The snook bite is going off on the beaches! The best time to get out there with a fly rod is at daybreak but the bite can last well into the heat of the afternoon if conditions are favorable. Look for the bait and cast on the fringes. There's no need to cast out very far; in fact, you shouldn't even have to get your feet wet as long as the tides rollin' in!

Many anglers consider it to be 'trashcan' fishing but on light tackle they'll give you a run for your money! I'm speaking of the marauders of the flats, the sharks and cuda, that are seen in great numbers especially in the summer months cruising the shallow water flats.

Living in Southwest Florida since 2002, kayak fishing has taken on a new twist for me. Fishing is much different here than from what I've been accustomed to growing up in CA all my life. Late day thunderstorms often hit without warning. Hurricanes put angling on hold, sometimes for weeks. Patience becomes the mantra of the day. But the itch to fish resides in me almost daily. I embrace the day with eager anticipation. The bite awaits!

The waters of Southwest Florida are a kayaker’s paradise especially this time of year. Whether you’re out there for the exercise or to wet a line, there’s nothing quite like the tranquility of being out there on the water motorless.
