Life in The Slow Lane is hardly the case for this Florida retiree. Since moving to Florida in 2004, she recorded two internationally recognized CDs as a jazz vocalist (www.kathryntaubert.com). Now mostly retired from performing, she teaches swimming lessons, is a PADI SCUBA divemaster and long distance swimmer, teaches computers to seniors, and is a “chronic volunteer.” Kathryn’s blog evolved from five weeks living with the Ewe Tribe in Ghana on an economic development initiative chronicled in a 2009 Naples Daily News series. Invited to write a Daily News blog, “Life in the Slow Lane” has evolved into observations on just about everything, and has been a regular feature of Bob Harden’s radio/internet talk show at www.bobharden.com. Having seen how people in a developing country deal with having nothing, I’m even more mindful of how ineffectively we deal with having everything. Living with one pair of shoes, a single towel, a bucket for a shower, simple food, and Village filled with gentle people causes withdrawal. (Or is it “detox?”)

When was the last time you sincerely wanted to know how someone was when you said “How are you?” And waited for their reply?
