Fishing has been fair this week nothing spectacular but it beats sitting at home

Naples and Marco Island Fishing Report

Fishing this past week has had its ups and downs. The Tarpon have been available, but we really have to work for our shots. I believe most of the fishing problems are due to the lack of rain for this time of the year. The fish seem to be unhappy and not rolling much and when they do roll they are quick rolling or slapping their tails some. This usually means disturbed fish or for the most part difficult to entice.

The River fishing has been ok, but certainly not automatic like it should be. The night fishing in all the passes from Marco to Naples seems to still be the most productive. Tarpon and lots of Snook are feeding heavy during the night and are very lethargic during the daytime, especially after nine o’clock in the morning. We are getting into a weaker tide phase and the fish are slowing down even more. We worked out but off this morning for 10 or 12 Snook and one Redfish for my Fly Angler Hal Rosen of Naples. We took our shots at Tarpon but could only get a couple of half hearted takes that didn’t result in even a jumped fish. Oh well, we will try again Friday morning for a slameroo.

have been mainly fly fishing or plug casting the last two weeks but after talking with the bait guys it doesn’t seem I am missing anything. They are catching lots of nice Mangrove Snapper to keep for dinner and some small Snook and Redfish to fill out the morning. They seem to be having better luck early in the morning also.

My fishing partner Ritch Aldacosta and I fished the CCA tourney out of Calusa Marina in Goodland this weekend with fantastic results. 1st place in a field of 24 boats their highest turnout for the monthly tournament to date. This is a fun little tourney that supports a good cause, the Naples Chapter of the CCA holds it the 1st Sunday of every Month. You have to be a member of the CCA to compete, and I believe they had 9 new members sign up this week. Werner Prescott and Scott Placed 2nd, Blaisdell and Donahue placed 3rd and Klein and Gundek placed 4th. I think everyone had a great time even if, most of us felt like we were going to melt in the afternoon sun. The top three places were separated by mere ounces.

Fishing for the next week should be roughly the same, weather man thinks we are going to be seeing more rain so maybe things will pick up even more. GOOD FISHING Roan z.
