Fishing was good but sporadic just about everywhere we fished this past week. Caught fish just about everywhere we stopped, but action was not fast and furious. I am guessing this is due to the extreme high temps in the air and the water. Most of the best bait fishing was on the outside due to the low tides and good water movement on the outside points. My Clients caught plenty of Snook and some very large Snapper on most of the points we hit. We even ran into a couple of nice Redfish on both days. Reds have been spotty for the most part in the Naples and Marco area. Better to our North and very good down around Lostmans River. This water does not have the right conditions to hold large numbers of Redfish. They come and go around Naples and Marco with only a few staying over. Tarpon fishing on the outside has been sporadic also. Find them one day and boat ride the next. Best chance still is the passes early in the Morning.
Fly Fishing has been good but you need to go early or late. After 9 am in the morning most of the best fishing is over unless you are sight fishing Reds on the open flats. The reds are there but they are not eating with reckless abandon, you have to make long accurate casts and tease them to bite. Not impossible just tricky. Snook on the fly early has been excellent with many taking poppers at sunrise on all the points leading to the passes from Naples and Marco. Fished from the outside to the back creeks and found fish scattered about. Taking mainly small patterns especially Pola Fiber Minnows in White/Black. Tarpon are traveling the beaches but definitely here one day gone the next. Black and Red like the Black Death has been working when you find them. Bass fishing still needs lower water and cooler temps but should get better after this weekend. Good luck and Good fishing this week. Roan z.
