Election day choices

The Next 100 Years by Peter Zuris

Good article in the paper today about the tea party, the point organization in the Republican struggle to rise, Phoenix like, from the ashes of their last attempt at governance.

One thing that many say tea partyers have in common is little previous political awareness. Of course, in pejorative words, that means little education in the details of our government. (Part of the Republican marketing strategy is to focus them on issues that have already been settled over the last 230+ years, like the interpretation of the Constitution, rather than the more relevant topic of our future in today's world.)

Another thing that I personally have observed is that the trait that correlates best to tea party membership is an affinity for the conservative entertainment network.

What all of this means is pretty obvious. Republican money feeds the Murdoch/Ailes media machine and stirs up people who, because of their lack of previous detailed political understanding, and their victim emotional state, react in precisely predictable ways.

They, being good Americans, walk the street and tell, either knowingly or unknowingly, Republican lies, thus marketing the one idea that could save the Republican Party. That the Democrats are even more incompetent than the Republicans.

None of this is supposition. It's the strategy that the Republican said a year and a half ago they would follow.

So, in November of 2010 and 2012 the American voter will be forced to make a decision about which approach to support. This Republican marketing scheme, or the truth about what got us here, what is necessary to get us out of our problems, what preparation is absolutely necessary for the future.

Unfortunately, this is a choice like many that the American people have "failed" at. An example? The choice between food that takes effort and responsibility: nutritious, healthful food. Or that which is fast, easy and cheap. The triple cheese and bacon artery buster fast food.

As is always true, some people are already committed to one alternative or the other. The group that everybody will be trying to lure in are the ones that still have open minds and are waiting for real information to decide.

In the end, the Republicans have no direction to go but up. Hopefully the majority of Americans will give their strategy its due. Rejection of its blatant manipulation of our emotions rather than our minds.
