After relocating to Naples, Jim opened Boughton Architects, Inc. in 1992. The office provided services for a wide range of commercial and residential clients until 2008. The firm was well known for sound design, technical expertise and effective management skills. Most notable projects include Regions Bank on US 41, Moorings Presbyterian Church, Naples Dodge Chrysler, and the new American Momentum Bank Center in Pelican Bay. In 2008, his company merged with Fletcher Thompson, a Top 50 Architectural Firm by Engineering News.

Jim was born in Canton, OH and experienced a traditional mid-west upbringing with a greater joy for sports than education. After a short and uneventful basketball stint at the College of Wooster, he transferred to Kent State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1976.
Jim met his wife Michele at Kent State and they have enjoyed over 30 years of marriage; they have a son and daughter who have moved on to bigger cities in western states. In his spare time, Jim enjoys reading, staying in shape and Colorado vacations.
