Just to clear up a matter or two: The bill being argued over In Congress (or maybe even approved by now, but I doubt it) is being hailed as a tax CUT. Sorry folks, the correct reference is EXTENSION of a tax Reduction program enacted during the Bush Administration. It WAS a tax cut at the time, but it’s been in place now for a coupla years. So, if approved, as I am sure Presbo will hail it as a tax cut, it should be correctly called an EXTENSION of the Bush cuts. If rejected by the left led Congress, headed by Nancy Pelosi, also known as “Grandma Goo-Goo”, and by Harry, “I’m only out for the people, no matter how the majority of them feel”, Reid, then the whole kit and caboodle would be referred to as the “Obama Tax Increase”.
Enough of the mislabeling, which many in Congress have a tendency to do, and get to what really has happened. As you probably know, Presbo announced a compromise that would extend the Bush program to ALL taxpayers, and discriminate against people earning above a certain income level.
Presbo described it as a good compromise for the country and the people. Question is, why did he wait so long to decide it might be good for the country?
What really happened is this: Presbo snookered the Republicans big time. In return for an extension for everybody, he was able to gain another extension of unemployment benefits, something he had not be able to get done previously.
Sure he lopped a couple of points off Social Security Taxes, but so what? He has his extension of unemployment benefits (which will add a ton of money more to the deficit), an extension that will carry him close to the 2012 election campaign.
This so-called outrage among House Democrats and the windy Senator from Vermont demonstrates how members of Congress can many times demonstrate mental density. If the outrage was for real, they, the Dems on Congress have no idea what’s taking place. If it’s a put-on, not all of us are too dumb to see what’s going on.
Even the dumbest of the politicos should catch on to this charade. Face it, if the extension does in fact prompt businesses to start hiring and investing, it will demonstrate that Obama’s plan worked, ergo victory in 2012. If It doesn’t work, guess who gets the blame? Its acronym is GOP. And again, victory for the Dems in 2012, disgrace for the Republicans.
I hope it does work, whichever side gets the credit. We need to do something to get our economy back on track, and people back to work. What I resent is the president and congress playing politics with our money. Extend the tax cuts, without the little gems being added by Democrats, or let them expire, for EVERYBODY, and stop using the hackneyed and disgusting term that puts us in class divisions. If there is any outrage over these shenanigans, it ought to be the American taxpayer, who is paying the freight.
