The Savvy Shopper

Have you been to west elm? It is a fun, contemporary store to explore, featuring furnishings and accessories for your home.

Bamboo seems to be "the thing" this season. White bamboo bowls and trays with a soft whitewash finish are very popular ranging from $14-$34 and they are food-safe.

Also find cool bath accessories in a clean design of natural bamboo with a white finish. With a whole array to choose from toothbrush holders, tissue box, waste bin and more from $5-$29.

You will find capiz pendant lamps that seem to pop up all over this season. They are cascading tiers of translucent natural shells, cut and strung by hand ranging from $59.-$99.The capiz table lamp is $99. Easy-Breezy linen, window panels in white or natural have capiz shells sewn to the edges. They come in all sizes and are sold in sets of 2 from $69.-$129 a set. Or hanging capiz...strands of shell in 72-inches length can be used for room dividers, set of 3 only $19.

If you are looking for an unusual toss pillow to add some punch to a bed, sofa or maybe a chair, this is the place to go. You will find a large assortment from beaded, raffia flower, mosaic jeweled, sand dollar, morocco, sea life and more. I like the one with the big jeweled grasshopper on it! They are all sold as covers so you can use your old pillows and put a fresh new cover on them! Range is $19-39. I change my pillows with each season --- it gives the room a whole new look.

The furniture is very sleek and contemporary, a lot in the oh so popular chocolate brown. The modular storage collection with its clean lines can be used about anywhere, in the living room to display art objects or candles or in the bath for extra towel storage and all those wonderful bath products we all seem to gather. They come in open door cubes or glass door cubes and there is a taller cabinet. You can stack them up to 45 inches high atop an 8-inch base. They come in chocolate or white. $59.-$189. You will find a large selection of modular seating, sofa collections, dining tables, coffee and side tables and many styles of chairs. Beds from day beds, headboards or bed frames all at reasonable prices.

For those fun accessories, you will find clear glass cloches. Put your pillar candles inside or a small collection of shells or starfish. A set of 3 white seamed vases is available for $69. Or check out the woven seagrass macramé that forms a web around natural stoneware vases from $39-$89.

There is quite a nice selection of area rugs from tribal, botanical, overlapping squares, circles you name it! I bought the zebra rug....just love it!! They are from $100-500, depending on size.

I just HAVE to have one of the lanterns they are showing for outside. There are Moroccan lanterns, hanging or standing and perforated ball lanterns from $39-69. The one I want is stainless steel and glass that you can put sand, shells and a couple of pillars in at $59. A smaller version can be found for $39.

The hanging wall shelves and cubes come in all sizes and there is a great selection of wall art. So get out there!

west elm is located in Coconut Point. I think you all know where that is by now!
