Pottery As Art ... this will blow your mind
Posted March 13, 2008
It is like walking under a rainbow. I didn't know pottery came in so many beautiful colors!
Susan Gold manages this store and said they have been open about three months. She walked me through it. Most of the pots found outside are made in either China or Vietnam. Those from Vietnam are the best ever, glazed at the highest heat. The inside pottery is made in Mexico, if you seal it you can also put these outside. Susan sells the sealer.
I found some unusual colors in pots such as the lime green and turquoise combined, just beautiful! The huge pot was only $385 and medium $163. Some of the other colors are rich royal blues, deep green flecked with still a darker green, beautiful turquoise, reds of all hues and black, purple, deep avocado, and burgundy just to name a few.
There was a "knock your socks off" gorgeous copper pot almost as tall as me for $847. But there are many sizes and shapes to choose from. The small pots in all colors were only $16.45. Ashley in sales was also very helpful, she showed me all the fountains. Those again come in just about every color and size. For instance the rib fountain that was about 3 1/2 feet tall sells for $302.50.
They display the pots in color groups so it is very eye catching to see the mass of color everywhere. Susan said the best selling color is brick. But the rustic very earthy, very primative are popular as well. I liked the pot that was 26" high by 26" wide in burnish red for $207.90. Susan said their prices are 30-40% lower than most.
Inside were Mexican pots, figurines, sun and moons, lizards and plates all painted in bright colors and each in a lot of colors. There were huge pots called perfume bottles, they didn't look anything like a perfume bottle but there was writing on them and it said perfume so they call them perfume bottles! A very large unglazed Mexican pot can be had for just $55. Also found were interesting wall sconces, frogs, circle of friends and much more. In the corner was a very nice display of yellow and blue Mexican pottery with a variety of prices.
