The Savvy Shopper

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH TREASURES...
AT SURROUNDINGS!
I have been writing the Savvy Shopper for almost two and a half years, three times a week....do you know how many places I have traveled! That's a lot of stores to write about. I am wracking my brain to come up with something new to tell you about. While playing cards at my club last week I asked the girls if they had any ideas. They kept coming up with suggestions but I said, been there, done that. It was getting to be a game and nobody was winning until my friend Ellie came up with the suggestion of Surroundings. Wa-la! Great idea, thank you Ellie!
So I traveled down US 41 to Naples and went to Surroundings. Wow! What a place! It is fine consignments for the home...definitely an upscale resale shop! It is like going on a treasure hunt. There is so much to look at in this large show room. Ellie said be sure to look up! The ceiling was loaded with all kinds of chandeliers, unbelievable. Everything from contemporary to very ornate and everything in-between. You could really light up your life! It was pretty amazing to see so much stuff under one roof. The walls held tons of art work of exceptional quality.
You could find just about any style of furniture that you had in mind. The white Florida inspired bedroom set by Bayside Collections looked brand new. Very attractive king bed, dresser and armoire. Other items with a Florida look, a pair of swivel chairs with sea horses embroidered on them, $395. each, a sea horse pillow that went well with them, $42. A table lamp with a coral base $88. There was a selection of wicker too in chairs, ottomans and trunks. For a one-of-a-kind tropical look, I found a custom palm leaf bed in green. It was a canopy style with the carved palm fronds running all along the rails, the corner posts to the top of the canopy with an opening in the canopy top. Very unique. The sign on it said it was originally $10,000. Imagine! Then $4485. and now a mere $1885. I have to say for such an unusual bed I thought that was a fair price.
Another unusual find was the custom made corner book case in a light finish. It was made to fit in a corner, had glass shelves and was 9 1/2 feet high. It came from a Robb & Stucky model, reasonably priced at $995.
The Hickory White gentleman's chest was outstanding with many drawers, lots of storage here. Beautiful dark wood with a matching head and foot board. Everything was so different and unusual like the huge 2 piece Oriental Goliath armoire at $1295.
Another setting that caught my eye was the beautiful, gracefully curved sofa in a soft beige on beige Damask print, $1025. There was a pair of matching chairs to complete the room, $375. each.
So much to choose from in here. Wall units, a game table with a chess board on top, a handsome ultra suede sofa and love seat in rich brown. Unusual toss pillows, floral arrangements, tapestries, an inlaid coffee table. There were many coffee and end tables in all styles. Lovely large trestle table for the dining room, again with many sets to choose from and a wide selection of bedrooms sets, I found a great padded headboard. The living room sets were in abundance in all types of fabrics from tapestry's to a light beige leather sofa, love, chair and ottoman.
The list goes on and on, huge mirrors, lamps and wall sconces, Bombay chests, rugs of all sizes and descriptions, lots of accent pieces. Even dishes. I liked the seashell dishes in aqua and white. Also a set of Lenox china, 12 piece place settings for $885. Bar stools, bakers racks, and oversized candle holders.
The sweetest thing I found was a child's bedroom set that was crackled and hand painted in delicate colors of Peter Rabbit on the armoire, The cow jumped over the moon on the dresser and bunnies on the chest, adorable!
If you are looking for a small little accent piece or table this is the place to go. It was fun wandering through Surroundings with so many different flavors. Spot on Ellie!
