Hodgepodge & Hot Flashes!
Don't you just love it!

It seems like I have been writing about a lot of consignment shops lately but a lot of people are shopping there in this economy. I drove all the way out Kelly Road because I just love the name of this shop! Lou Potts was working the day I went in and she said the business has been better than ever this summer. The owner Marsha Crowder makes it interesting to shop here as she likes to pick out items that are unique and unusual. The show room has two rooms of consignments and I did find some unusual pieces. One being a hand made and hand painted small table and chair by an Arizona artist. It could be used as a small desk. There is an Indian design painted on it, just $364 for both pieces. Another piece that I admired was the hand painted dressing table with drawers and a center lift-up compartment. It was small and dainty and came with a little stool and a lovely mirror. Priced at $215. It was on it's second price. Every 30 days the price goes down 10%, the merchandise is kept 90 days. Small things like accessories are kept 60 days. Sitting on top of the dressing table was a vintage 4 piece dresser set in silver that consisted of a comb, brush, hand mirror and clothes brush, $33.
Find plenty of armoires to choose from to rid up some clutter, with room for the TV and other electronics plus additional storage, the shutter style sage green was in perfect condition! There was a three piece entertainment center in oak and a white 3 piece entertainment center looked new. Also a neat cherry computer armoire to tidy up an office space in a jiffy.
The maple topped table was new and came with a 20" leaf, the pedestal base was done in an attractive washed
blue. Perfect for a condo owners eat in kitchen. Another table and chair set that was perfect for small spaces had a dark wood top with white legs and four white chairs only $223 for the set. Also for small spaces was a vintage 2 drawer buffet that would fit in nicely in a small condo.
A variety of mirrors could be found, some hand carved and in various sizes. There were pictures and tapestries even a tiffany style leaded glass lamp with colored in lays, $230. There were other unusual lamps and all kinds of knick-knacks
More unusual things, a cherry and metal corner unit to display all your treasures and collectibles. A pub table with wine storage underneath featured carvings on the corners.
I found a cute dog bed with an iron frame and a comfy cushion, $23. Talk about unique, a pair of carved monkeys to be used as a table base or the very large antique teak or rosewood 46" high table lamp of an oriental figure. I asked Lou what was the most unusual piece that they've taken in or sold and she said a 7' long gaff rigged ketch priced at $442 that was purchased by a man from Punta Gorda. The word gets out as a man from Iowa called about it!
There were some nice pieces of upholstered furniture too. You could furnish a whole vacation unit in here. There was hand painted glass wear that goes out pretty fast, a cast iron lions head at $34 was a decorator piece. Another great antique piece was the grandfather's shaving stand at $23. Anything with a yellow dot was half off.
It takes a while to browse through here but was fun seeing all the truly different things. I think Marsha is doing a good job in finding the unique and unusual! The amazing thing is it has been here for five years and I just found it!
