Calusa Gallery....
Has much to offer.

I was pretty amazed when I dropped into Calusa Gallery. They offer custom framing with a wall of different types, sizes, finishes and all kinds of matting. No job too big or small and they can help with your decision on what would look best with your art work. But besides doing the custom framing they also carry all kinds of art, home decor and custom mirrors.
I liked the fact that they carry the original works of many local artists. They have a wide variety of art. There are limited editions, lithographs, golf art, and awesome photography.
There is a variety of hand made ceramics that are beautifully painted with lots of attention to detail. I have shared some of the pieces with the hot buys.
One local artist makes fabulous designs using the dried pods that fall off the palm trees. They are painted in vibrant colors even including some coated in metal and put in an art form that makes a statement in any room. They are in all sizes from just a couple pods for a free standing piece of art to many and each in a different color. There are large groupings the would be a great addition and a conversation piece to a large wall. They are created by artist Maria Saraceno, she calls them the tropical pod. It is a natural palm product which is dried, cut sealed, painted and treated a two-part epoxy resin to make it long lasting. They are painted in rich hues of the tropics and finished in a lustrous epoxy sheen.
The inspiration sea urchins by Jeanne A. Salvo are so sweet and would make a wonderful gift. Especially to give to one of your Northern friends to have a keepsake from the sea. They are jeweled and have small signs on the underside of inspirations, peace, love, hope. They are carefully filled with plaster so they will last a long time then the jewels are put on. A perfect gift at $15. to $40. They come in different sizes.
This gallery is where you will find the fabulous wood bowls by artist Jim McKay from Naples. He uses fallen trees from the hurricanes to make his very unique bowls of Norfolk Island Pine. The large pieces are very impressive but he makes them in all sizes. They range from $40. to $600.
I saw a display of adorable mermaids all made by local artists with attention given to detail.
This is an eclectic gallery featuring limited edition giclees, serigraphs and etchings with Florida and European motifs. Also many hand made items for home decor.
Danisha, a husband and wife team from Mexico City make unusual ceramics. He sculpts and she does the detailed painting. I featured a two piece bowl set in a hot buy. I was very impressed by these limited editions. The bowls lift off a unique stand, the pelican and fish bowl is $1300.
In Calusa Gallery they gather the most interesting and unusual art. It is definitely worth a trip to take it all in. Kelly Thorsen pointed out many different things to me and was very helpful taking time to explain the different pieces and artists.
Whether you are looking for an unusual gift or an outstanding art piece you will find it here!
