Shelters see plenty of evacuees

So Much Drama in the EOC

Nearly 8,300 people took shelter at Lee County provided facilities Sunday night as Hurricane Wilma approached.
The bulk spent the night at Germain Arena, which saw 5,110 come in from the elements. Bonita Springs YMCA, the first shelter in the extreme southern end of the county, had about 350 people this morning.
Many of the shelters were forced to revert to generator power after electricity was knocked out throughout the county. Germain had a few flickers before losing power for good before 7 this morning. Reports from Dunbar High School in Fort Myers and Diplomat Elementary School in Cape Coral suggest they too had to switch over to generators.
Nearly 300 people were checked into the county's special needs shelter.
