The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center shows continued strengthening from Hurricane Wilma. With its large eyewall the storm now will likely inflict hurricane force winds on the extreme south end of Lee County.
Daniel Noah, meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said the new forecast means Bonita Springs could get gusts of greater than 90 miles per hour, especially along the coastal areas.
The rest of Lee County is outside of the main eyewall and should have sustained tropical storm force winds with occasionally higher gusts, he said.
The storm continues on the previously expected track toward Marco Island.
