Statue at St. John the Evangelist Church

Steve DeFillippo’s Point of View

Statue at St. John the Evangelist Church

For those that have not as yet seen the magnificent memorial bronze statue which is directly in front of St. John’s the Evangelist Church, on 111th Ave, North Naples; you are in for a thought provoking experience; if not a spiritual uplifting.

The statue is of God and a military service man embracing each other. The facial emotions and the embrace tell the story.

Each person who views the memorial will have their own special interpretation of the meaning behind the sculptor’s presentation. Stone pavers are engraved with those local patriots who have died for their country.

• Some will see the sacrifices of our military that defend our way of life and our Constitution.
• Many will envision the courage that is only recognizable if you have been in a life threatening situation.
• Most will admit that there are no atheists in foxholes.

Whatever you see or however you interpret the sculpture, one thing is for sure: you will appreciate this statue and you will not forget this great work of art
