Just a brief blog before the action really starts here in Tampa during Super Bowl week. In less than an hour, I'll head to the Arizona Cardinals press conference, where Immokalee native Edgerrin James may or may not be one of six players available for comments, in addition to head coach Ken Whisenhunt.
I'm guessing Edge won't be there -- but I'll keep y'all updated on what happens and what the 2008 NFC Champions have to say on their first-ever trip to the Super Bowl.
I'll also have more on Edgerrin's reaction to preparing for his first Super Bowl in a 10-year NFL career, with some inside info from his brother, Fort Myers-based doctor Ed German, in blogs and stories later today.
What else is going on here in Tampa? Well, as you all know, it's a beautiful day here in Florida. Not everyone is as lucky as we are, so most of the media here and NFL players -- especially the ones from Pittsburgh -- are VERY happy to be in the sun. I'm thinking we could see some sunburns later this week.
I'm sitting right now in the Super Bowl Media Center, which is basically the hub of press conferences, TV and radio for the next eight days (including post-game stuff on Monday). There's a huge room with tables and laptops and media from all over the country, including curtained-off sections for The Arizona Republic (top Phoenix paper), the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Tampa Tribune, St. Pete Times and Reuters news service.
Also at the Convention Center, which is right on the water, there's a display from the Tampa Host Committee -- an indoor waterfall -- and another big display from North Texas (Arlington) which is scheduled to hold the Super Bowl XLV in 2011.
Next year, of course, will be back in Miami.
We get pretty lucky in SWFL with these huge events right in our backyard. Throughout the week, I'll try to keep you posted about things to do in Tampa surrounding the Super Bowl excitement, in case you want to make a trip.
But don't try getting into the Media Center. They're very strict about these credentials, as I've already found out. Mine has the same photo on it that I took in 2007, with the wonderful orange button-up collared shirt.
If I knew it was going to be on my Super Bowl credential, well, I guess I would've chosen a different shirt ...
