Just returned from this morning's media session with the Arizona Cardinals at their team hotel. I'll have more quotes and stories throughout the day, but we'll start with some tidbits from Immokalee's hometown hero, Cards RB Edgerrin James ...
"Three years ago when I first started talking about coming (to the Cardinals), (me and WR Anquan Boldin, who's from Pahokee, Fla.) talked about the opportunity to be in a Super Bowl and what it would take to get over the top ... We were kind of under the radar then, but that is the kind of conversations we had."
ON HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH BOLDIN
"That's somebody you want to have on your team ... there's so many things, the way he prepares, the way he runs routes ... You know what you're going to get from him."
"It's more than football, though. We're going to be friends for the rest of our lives."
ON HELPING EACH OTHER THROUGH UPS AND DOWNS WITH CARDS
"It's life. He's dealt with it, and I've dealt with it ... When you're surrounded by so many people going through tough things like we are ... people getting sick, people struggling .. That's when you think, hey it's not that bad."
ON HIS CAREER
"You're gonna see a lot of players playing at a high level now for a long time. I'll be playing."
ON TEMPORARILY LOSING HIS STARTING JOB TO TIM HIGHTOWER
"I think when you put things in perspective and you grow up the way a lot of us guys did -- I know there's tough things going on in the world. I wasn't born with a silver spoon ... I wasn't going to sit over there like a crybaby. I did whatever I could to help (Hightower). As long as our team plays to a high level, that's the important thing.
ON THE FACT THAT HE REALLY WASN'T HAPPY ON THE BENCH, THOUGH
"Not once did I believe that I should've been on the bench."
ON WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE ON THE SIDELINES
"I've been playing this game since I was 8 years old, and I've never been on the bench except one year at (the University of Miami). It's a whole new world. I saw things that those other guys go through. They just have to sit there and wait to go in, and sometimes it's a long wait."
ON IF HE STILL SHOWERED AFTER THE GAMES HE SAT ON THE BENCH
"I'm always showering. That's one thing about me. I'm a real clean person."
ON THE CARDS RUNNING GAME THIS SUNDAY
"It'll be just like the rest of the playoffs. We're not afraid to run the ball."
ON HOW MANY YARDS THEY HAVE TO GET ON THE GROUND
"You don't have to get 100 yards ... it's about getting first downs. If I can get a couple yards when it should've been a negative, that's what I want to do."
ON HIS STYLE
"I always kinda stayed in my own lane. It's not that it was the right way, it was just my way."
ON HOW HE'S CHANGED
"I'm still the same ... but now I have more responsibility."
ON HIS NEW LAMBORGHINI, WHICH IS STILL PARKED IN FRONT OF THE TEAM HOTEL
"That way everybody saw it when they walked in ... It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to drive it. I didn't want to know until I got it."
*** More from Edge and others to come as the day goes on ...
