“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” – Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006.

Far more Americans have signed on to SS Disability than have founds jobs under Obama

Median incomes have fallen 7.3% under Obama

The poverty rate climbed to 15.7% last year, highest since the 1960's

The Misery Index (combo of unemployment and inflation) has risen from 7.83 to 9.71 under Obama

Obama has added more than $5 trillion to the National Debt in just 3.5 years, which is much more than Bush added in 8 years

Food stamp spending is up 100% under Obama

Gas prices have gone up 100% under Obama

Food prices have gone up 25% under Obama

The recession was a result of the Mortgage Meltdown which was caused by democrats like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, ACORN and their attorney Barack Obama that forced financial institutions to pass out mortgages like candy to folks without the means to pay back the loans.

Now we have elected a president that not only helped cause the original mess, but has made that mess much, much worse.

Romney produced only ONE year of tax returns today, 2011. According to his return, he could have taken another 3 million in deductions.

Romney and his accounts chose not to take those outstanding deductions. The current return shows a 14% tax rate.

But under federal law the Romney's have 3 years to amend those (2011) returns and take the extra deductions.

Buy doing so (And you know they will) The Romney's would have an effective rate well below the 14% he says he pays.

After he loses this election and then files the amended return, to get the other 2 million in deductions. The government will write him a $300,000.00 check from the IRS, Which is our money.

This is the reason why the PAST returns are so important.

Those returns can't be amended according to federal tax law because the 3 year rule has expired.

Is he one of the 47% he talks about? As Americans we ALL have the right to know the truth!

As employers check the backgrounds of potential employees. Don't we as Americans have the right to check out someone who is running for the job of president of the United States?

Paradise, I can not get over how smart you are regarding what Romney may do in the future. Usually when people are so sure what some else will do they themselves have done it themselves.

Since you know so much about the future why are you not so stinking rich that you do not have to worry about your 91 year old mother who is on welfare and take care of her yourself?

You must also be an accountant who seems to "know" all of the tricks on avoiding taxes under the law.

You ademently requested Romney's returns in other posts. Look at his returns again. He gave 30% to charity which he can not get back, not like our V.P. who gave less than 1%.

Where are the OBAMA's college transcripts, their writings, who they associated themselves with at that time. I am more worried about that then what someone else may do in the future. That is far more important to America than what Romney may do with his tax returns later on.

We know Obama is a Socialist, has been a Socialist and MAY, notice I say MAY, be a Socialist for the rest of his life.

Paradise, you wish to know the truth about Romney and you know nothing about the Obama. Who checked him out before he so quickly came on the scene with his wife who "for the first time in her adult life she respected America" when her unknown husband was nominated for the office he now is making a mess of.

That alone was enough to see the writing on the wall that those idiots in the video above missed or could not care about.

No, let apologize to the Islamics for what some fool film maker made and not be totally bothered by them killing our ambassador and three others. That is what we should be worried about not what Romney may do with his properly presented, by law, tax returns.

Maybe when the Brotherhood chops off the head or publically sodomizes someone you know you will get your priorities in order.

First, its not a "trick" to ammend your tax return. Any accountant will tell you exactly what Paradise said and no one would consider it a tax trick or loop hole of some sort.

Second, it is absolutely irrelevant how much charity someone gives when they are running for President. It is great that Romney gives so much to charity, but it has nothing to do with his fitness to be President or his ethics when it comes to his taxes.

Third, your attack on Paradise regarding his 91 year old mother are way out of bounds. She is an American and has EARNED her social security and medicare. She is not a victim or a moocher. I'm sure that Romney and Mrs. Romneys elderly parents are also receiving Social Security and Medicare.

Fourth, why would anyone care about Obama's college transcripts. I'm not sure why you are so concerned about what classes he took or grades he received 25 years ago but your are not concerned about what the other guy did with his taxes (as an adult) three years ago which is far more relevant. The PResident has been in his office for over three years. He has been fully vetted several times by both the liberal and conservative media. With all of the Obama haters out there desparately trying to delegitimize our President by claiming he is somehow unqualified to legally serve or that if we analyze his writings as a 19 year old that will somehow tell us what kind of President he will be is beyond s----- and actually quite unpatriotic. You might care about it, but it is clear from ALL of the polling that America does not care at all.

Fifth, Obama is not a Socialist. You obviously have no idea what a socialist is if you are calling Obama one. The silly "redistribution" scare is so mindless as to be humerous. In America, we have always redistributed wealth to some degree. That is why we have taxes. If you don't like the concept of redistribution, then don't pay taxes. Regan, Bush 1 and Bush 2 all redistributed, as did Clinton, Nixon, Ford, Eisenhower and evey other President we have had since the federal income tax was instituted.

Following you logic, if Obama was really such a socialist he would have tried to institute all sorts of radical programs since as you believe his days are numbered. If he were as scary as you seem to think, he would use his last days as President to get all of the things done that all good socialists want. But, alas, that has not happened. You must be very disappointed.

Stop looking at the world through FOX colored glasses.

I spent a good part of my life in the military trying to help stop the Soviet Union from making our people Communist subjects, but now it looks like a majority of freeloaders, racists, and the greedy Unions in this country may be ready to hand it to the World Communist Order on a silver platter. I don't mind telling you that when I think of this election, it scares me more than anything I saw in 22 years of military service, including Viet Nam, because we are getting ready to lose our country to a corrupt dictatorship. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have the intelligence, ability, and desire to save this country. Please let them. "Let me refresh your memory on the constitution. It takes three branches of government to pass laws, The LEGISLATIVE BRANCH, the EXECUTIVE BRANCH, & the JUDICIAL BRANCH aka Supreme Court.

Congress to the Senate then to the Presidents desk.

If nothing can get passed in the congress The LEGISLATIVE BRANCH , It can't move on to the senate for a vote. If there is no bill for the president (the EXECUTIVE BRANCH) to sign how can you keep blaming Obama"?

The laws according to the constitution come from congress and senate. Stop preaching constitution law when you have NO idea what your talking about. There is more to this countries constitution than the right to bare arms.

Now lets look at Pans list above. How many of those items above need approval from Congress before they can go to the presidents desk.

Pan you should be blaming congressional Republicans for all the deadlock in government, not the President! Let's call a spade a spade.........

Obstructionism can also take the form of widespread agreement to oppose policies from the other side, regardless of any efforts at compromise.

An example is the agreement by a group of Republican politicians at a meeting on January 20th, 2009 when Republican strategist Frank Luntz met with seven Republican representatives, Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, Pete Sessions, Jeb Hensarling, Pete Hoekstra, and Dan Lungren and five Republican senators, Jim DeMint, Jon Kyl, Tom Coburn, John Ensign, and Bob Corker. Newt Gingrich was also in attendance. The agreement included among other things that they were to "Show united and unyielding opposition to the president's economic policies." Eight days later the Minority Whip, Eric Cantor held the House Republicans to a unanimous "No" vote against Obama's economic stimulus plan. At the end of the meeting Newt Gingrich said "You'll remember this day. You'll remember this as the day the seeds of 2012 were sown.

Panola60 you are spot on.

Obama has not lived up to any of his promises. His campaign promises reminded me of when I was in 5th grade and one of the guys running for school president promised to put coke in the drinking fountains. We fell for it and he won by a landslide. Unfortunately, most of Obamas supporters are too much like us 5th graders were - only difference we learned.

Obama supports do not think for themselves or listen to facts. They want to be steered - they regurgitate the same rhetoric that has been spoon fed to them by mainstream media and never state facts that really mean anything. Instead they focus on how much Palin spent on an outfit or Romney's taxes because that is all they are capable of talking about. They don't know about anything else nor do they seem to have the capability to understand anything else.

If they really want to open their minds and think for themselves, they would listen to both sides and watch fox news once in a while. But they can't - they are too scared to hear about whats really going on in the world. Instead they keep their ears covered and their heads in the sand. Its very scary.

Mitt Romney’s trust invested in Cnooc at a time when the US was growing concerned about the Chinese oil company’s multibillion-dollar dealings with TEHRAN, according to the 2011 tax return released by the Republican nominee for president.

The Chinese investment by Mr Romney’s blind trust prompted accusations of hypocrisy from the Obama campaign on Monday, given Mr Romney’s criticism of Barack Obama for not being tough enough on Chinese “cheaters”.

“As he rolls his bus through many Ohio towns that are benefiting from [Obama’s] actions to . . . protect American workers from unfair Chinese trade practices, Mitt Romney will, as they say, have some explaining to do,” said an Obama campaign spokesman.

But Mr Romney’s investment in Cnooc also raises questions about his tough stance against Iran and is further evidence of how the former Bain Capital chief executive’s vast global share holdings have posed a challenge to his bid for the White House.

Last month, Cnooc Limited’s chairman, Wang Yilin, said in a speech that the company’s large-scale deep water rights were a “mobile national territory and a strategic weapon”, a description that highlights the political sensitivity surrounding the company.

1. Who paid for his tuitions to very expensive universities?
2. What was written by him during his college career?
3. What was written by Michelle, who sleeps beside him at night?
4. Who and why was he able to buy an expensive house on a community organizers meager earnings. How did he manage the loan for that house, what was to be the payback for that loan?

The reason you can pick on Romney and comment about his history is because it is known and for the most part open to discussion.

We know very little about Obama except for the characters he hung with for many years. Why has that all been taboo for the media to talk about?

So continue on arguing about Romneys taxes or Obamas citizenship. It's all just a distraction. s----- is as s----- does!

It looks to me like Romney paid almost 19 times more in taxes than Obama. His rate is not the story. His rate would have been double had it not been for his generous contributions to qualified charities. Charities reduce the burden on the available taxes and the nice thing about them is YOU get to decide where the money goes and where it will go the furthest and do the most good...unlike the black hole of our federal government where much of the money goes to people sitting around trying to figure out ways to get rid of it and justify more. Even the most ardent liberal knows a very high percentage of our taxes is wasted or used for things that many would not approve if they had control. You can bet that 10% of Romney's income went to the church...Mormon's tithe. That still leaves 2.7 million donated to other legitimate charities and those places need only known by the people that recieve the money, the people that give the money and the IRS who's job it is to check to make sure the charities are legit...no one else's business.

This is sad. A bunch of people so convinced that "their" party is the right party while both parties are basically the same. The comments here remind me of a senate made up of politicians that care about their own political career more than the country. With out real change here is where we are going. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/25/wor...
I wont even mention Greece. Italy is next up. It will spread to all over indebted nations with out real changes in our government. This is from the AP regarding the protests in Madrid today.
"They are calling for fresh elections, claiming the government’s austerity measures show the ruling Popular Party misled voters to get elected last November". Say it ain't so! The popular party mislead voters? In regards to austerity measures? Austerity is coming here people. As soon as we get these elections over. No matter who wins.

Entitlements are going to shrink. Yes, that includes Social Security and medicare. All you old folks will scream that's not fair! I paid in! Guess what? So did I! You morons voted for people that stole from it. I have a long ways to go before I am age eligible. I've paid in a lot of money. Why should you take my money and I and my kids will be left with nothing but $60+ Trillion in unfunded liabilities? The game is almost up. Unfortunately, I believe you are right that our present financial condition is beyond repair without major changes, and reductions in services, which needs to start right here on Marco Island.

It then becomes a matter of who is better equipped to handle the changes and survive, and it will certainly not the 47 percent, who will be coming after the survivor’s last dime by any means possible.

So it becomes a question of who you think will fare better in this event, Obama or Romney, and I plan to bet my last dime on Romney.

I'm reading a lot of spin from you guys about other subjects, and not the FACT Romney was a major stock holder in a Chinese Oil company that's in Bed with Iran!

If that does not bother you, Satin should be your guy for president! Cnooc Oil is now working with the government of Iran to buy oil rings right here in the Gulf of Mexico.

CNOOC is a familiar name to Americans. In 2005, Congressional pressure ended a bid by the company to buy California's Unocal, which was ultimately sold to Chevron.

By the way the pipeline that goes from Canada to New Orleans is a direct line with NO openings in it... nothing for St. Louis of any city that the pipe passes.

I have a Canadian friend who works for the company that is working on the pipeline.

The oil will be delivered in the port of New Orleans to THE HIGHEST BIDDER!. There are no guarantees that Americans will see a ONE drop unless they are the highest bidder.

So, Let's not be naive, Money in life rules, you know that!

Please try to respond to the subject without mentioning Obama.. If you noticed I did NOT mention the guy! I bet you can't!

However 1P, the pipeline would have provided 30,0000 jobs...and the oil flowing through the pipeline will be taxable, and the oil could be sold to highest bidder, including Exxon-Mobile and Shell...at a lower cost than shipping it across the world...and the more oil available...the lower the price per barrel and I would much rather send the money to Canada...who will use it to develop their economy...and the people will spend their money right here on Mark Up Island...doncha know?

The only real problem with that pipeline is that it would have spent a lot of miles a little too close for comfort near our major midwest aquifer...however the players came up with a plan to re route it...it would have been longer and provided even more revenue...but the greenicks at the EPA and our President jumped on that to kill the deal...not a problem for the Canadian's though...it's a free economy so they can build their pipeline to their west coast and ship their oil to China...giving them the advantage of cheaper oil while we pay what ever the middle east monopoly can get away with. That decision to kill that pipeline was perhaps the absolute worst one made by our admisnistration in years. When are we going to come out of this stupor we are in?

Cap.

The rate he paid was based upon investment income which has a maximum of 16%. He would not have paid that much more because of the investment deduction. In fact it would have only be 1.9% more. The deductions of 30% was far in excess that he would have need to lower his tax rate 1.9%. It was extremely generous of him to give the 30% to charities. To think how many mouths that fed, or clothing or housing that provided for those in need.

How could the Libercrats fault him for that? The should be going after Biden for his measly less than 2% given to charity.

Our_world_according_to_zookeeper (Inactive) writes:

To be more to the point, the latest Obama commercial misinforms people in regard to the 14.1% deduction making people think that the money he earned fell into ordinary income not investments which has a much, much lower rate than ordinary income.

It is an insult to Americans that the Democrats try to sneak that by the uninformed who believe it.

There is no way that those making the commercial did not know that they were misinforming the electorate. In that case it is an outright LIE.

Very sad indeed.

I wonder if the people in Spain are concerned about what Rajoy paid in taxes? They don't look concerned? http://www.rtve.es/noticias/directo2/
Protests are turning violent and Spain hasn't even asked the ECB "formally" for bail out money yet. When they do ask, I meant beg, for money the Troika will come to Spain. This little protest will look like a day at the park once the Troika takes over the country. Us Americans will be far better at this protest stuff than the Spaniards.

Carry on discussing the tax code. It matters to someone? Somewhere? One would think that it would only matter to Romney? It's his money? Maybe we should be concerned with what DC will do with our money?

WTF,

Your statements are correct:

This has been and will still be a dirty campaign against a president who can not stand on his accomplishments.

I was simply trying to explain to those uniformed that they are barking up the wrong tree when it comes to Romney's taxes.

I think the Democrats are trying to bring in the uneducated voter when they are lying about tax rates when few understand it and few in the lower income brackets know nor care about investment income tax brackets.

It is a ploy to make those people think there are getting the truth and should vote for their party.

This only shows that the Democrats will do anything to get votes. I would be insulted if I was a Democrat and knew the down-talking their party is doing to me in order to get my vote.

Correction: My first line should have read that this has been a dirty campaign "from" not "against" a president who can not stand on his accomplishments.

I am also sorry to feel that it is going to get a whole lot dirtier and very possibly violent before long.

Though I may disagree some about whether or not Obama has been effective in pushing destructive policies through. But what he says is true regarding NDAA, etc.

Zoo,
I don't mean to sound like I'm attacking or anything. It's just frustrating to see both parties destroying the country by ignoring math, common sense, and free market principals. I understand that the left vs right has been deeply embedded in the brains of Americans for the last 75 years and critical thinking beyond that is nearly impossible. It will take a massive shock to people to get them to think outside the box. I believe the shock is coming.

WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot writes:

This is Spain Tonight. http://www.businessinsider.com/spanis... Spain is broke. The people don't like austerity. But they allowed it to happen with their voting choices and nonchalance. Austerity hasn't even happened yet. Spain must beg the ECB, IMF for money. That will bring in the Troika. The Troika will enforce some real austerity. The people will really NOT like the Troika. When this happens in Italy it will be even more fascinating. Next up France. Japan somewhere in between. Kicking the can, extending and pretending, can only last so long. We are witnessing a global shift in the balance of economic power around the globe.

It will happen here too. Americans will show the rest of the world how to protest. If I was an inner city cop in the US, I would seriously be looking at a career change or transfer. 50 million Americans losing their SNAP cards, unemployment, and SS benefits won't be conducting a "sit in". There are millions of guns in America and these people already aren't fond of law enforcement. I suspect there will be a few million seniors protesting as well. SS & Medicare are unsustainable in their current form.
