Well Dave, you and I have a very different view of "Church". At one point in my life, I would have agreed with you. However after much research and discovery and “soul searching"; I can state with confidence that Church is no more than a place of public gathering for the sole purpose of religious indoctrination. It is a place where ancient myths and superstition merge and are falsely portrayed as the word of God. These myths, perpetuated with a smile, are used to convince the “Flock” that they are stained, dirty, and ill of soul. Through the various interpretations of the multiple sects, that claim to know the “truth”, one can give up all rational and critical thinking and seek a false salvation that no man has the power or right to give the credulous. It means that believers have never taken the time to read and study the bible from an objective point of view. For if they had, the pews would be empty. No one was guiltier than I was when it came to being a rote Christian. It is a place where follow the leader takes on a completely new meaning. It is a place where individuality is discouraged and following blindly, without questions is encouraged. We live in an age where most answers are at our fingertips, yet this is one area that most people never even attempt to really search for answers and real truth. If one does dare to question the word of God, then of course we all know what awaits this person. Therefore, rather than search for truth we are content basking in ignorance. This is what Church means to me.
