"One is the stuff of fantasy and euphemism, the other is hard cold truth." If made up stories is what people espouse at funerals than that would make both the eulogy and the judgment fantasies. This is exactly one of the problems with people accepting the fact that they are human. Religions and their Gods (of which there are many) survive because humans cannot face their own immortality. If people would wake up and realize that, you only have this one life; how much more would people accomplish? How many more words and deeds would we achieve? It is the false promise of an afterlife and judgment that truly stifles living the one precious life that we do have. So many allow for so little and accept so much suffering in the belief that there is a better life after this one. So sad and wasteful is the life not lived because of these false promises. We have but one and only one life in which we live. Live it as if every day is your last and some day you will be right. When I die, the only eulogy I want, is not one of fiction, but the truth. He lived, loved, and enjoyed his journey. The only thing I want buried with me is my dreams of which I always aspire for more. And the love of my family and friends knowing that I do have immortality, not in some fantasyland, but in the hearts and minds of those that truly meant something to me in this life. It is my hope that when I pass, someone will remember and think of me, and when they do, a smile is brought upon their face. This is true immortality!
