"In every great lie, there is a kernel of truth" Joe Yurko has some knowledge of the NRA's origin but then goes on to use the "left's" common smears against the grassroots organization that opposes their emotional position on gun ownership. Joe is probably not an NRA member, and he certainly has not attended one of their excellent gun-safety classes. The National Rifle Association is the equivalent of the American Red Cross when it comes to gun safety. One of the reasons gun accidents are at an all time low is due to the NRA's efforts to get good, inexpensive training available at the community level. Those who hate and fear guns and the people who own them cannot understand how gun ownership makes us all safer. Instead they focus on the misuse of guns in the hands of criminals and mentally deranged. If disarming the public worked so well, why are Brazil, Columbia, Jamaica, South Africa, and Russia so unsafe? Instead of repeating the misinformation printed in the New York Times or the Huffington Post, Joe needs to attend a real NRA gun class and see if he might be wrong about them.
