It certainly appears that some kind of agreement was made prior to this meeting and why was this not publicized to the general public in a more timely manner? It seems that Thompson was railroaded out without any ample time for the public to provide their input as to their perception about his performance. And, I for one, would have chosen to let him complete his contract (assume a 3 year contract was in place) and then to not renew it. I can't believe that we can waste a quarter of a million dollars in buying out his contract and then searching for a new city manager. And to think that any worthwhile City Manager would even consider coming here with the Council that we now have is a no-brainer.
