I would suggest that the MIA has continually stated that if they opened, it would not cost the Taxpayers at all. Tract K, which is NOT specifically designated for any school use, belongs to all the Taxpayers of Collier County, including those of us on Marco Island. At one time, Tract K had a value in excess of $3 million. Now, I assume it is around $1 million, although maybe the County should have it appraised to find out the approximate figure. The sale of this land would yield enough revenue to pay 1% of the budget for Collier County School District, which is about $100 million. That is a benefit to all Taxpayers. This is not surplus land by any means or definition. It was certainly worth a try, but was certainly not consistent with the promise continuously made by "Jane" during this process. Ed Issler
