Islandeye...okay, you got the permit and then you removed the turtles to build your house. My point exactly...it was not wrong then and it is not wrong now...again, not looking for an argument, just puttting it out there.
Since we have a narrow group blogging I would like to tell another story,,,someone out there can attest to the validity. 100 years ago, a childless couple by the name of Milton and Catherine Hershey started by providing shelter to a handful of homeless boys. They started with 4. Today the Milton Hershey School provides education, which in many cases ends with college sclolarships based on achievement to almost 2,000 girls and boys from grade school to diploma. I met a man a couple of weeks ago that rehabbed a four flat near NYC 25 years ago...his last project a few years ago was a 450 Million dollar mixed use Condo, office, retail complex.
I would not dare to belittle a school that starts with 50 kids in trailers...the forward looking youngsters have a vision that many of us don't share for one reason or another. All of us know had it not been for these pioneering spirits we would still be in Europe someplace. It is in the human nature for some people to simply make things happen for the furtherment of the species. I am not ashamed, I am proud of them.
Captjimbo,
You are picking at straws. What happened to the 250 students that were going to jump at the chance of being part of the first 2 classes? Now it is 50 kids for 10 teachers and administrators etc. Not realistic at all.
Unprovable claims were made and when bloggers questioned those claims they were called all kinds of names trying to belittle their opinions. Well the proof is in the pudding. The Academy does not have the support that it claimed to have, not even close.
You are right, about one thing from your post. The Hershey's started small and knew enough or realized that growth would take place with experience and reputation. That is something that the Academy had a chance of doing and let their eyes become too big for their stomachs and bit off much more than they could chew. Now their reputation is merely a list of unproven claims and maybe just maybe the minimum of students needed to start. That is if the CCSB allows a teacher to student ratio this large.
BTW. How do you relate the kids on Marco to homeless kids in the first place? That is one stretch of the imagination.
