Oh my God, the chairman of the North Naples fire commission, states: "We look at this from the standpoint of one thing: Saving lives. Our motives are simply this: we as a group must do what's best for the citizens of this community. We need to stop doing things that would undermine the confidence in the public of these agencies."
Here is the perspective from a medical doctor, to counter the "saving lives" rhetoric I hear from fire commissioners and fire chiefs.
And how many times have we heard from city officials, that towns and cities were going to save us money, or recover monies sent to the county for services the towns and cities would provide. In practice, the towns and cities did not recover any county monies and in fact they only added another layer while the county continues to collect monies for protective/safety services.
Case in point: on Marco Island, we have county and local police protection. Yeah, like Collier county can now address protection in unincorporated areas of the county!
Pay attention, folks!
Deja vu.
