"Fay Biles was 100 percent correct. Marco Islanders did "bend over backwards to give money" as she predicted earlier."

The greatest Lady of Marco Island is always right!

"In my check presentation remarks to the council, I offered that our Fireworks Fundraising Committee members have agreed that we will do this again next year provided the City Council agrees, as they did this year, to match the funds we raise dollar for dollar. I still have not heard back from them on our offer."

You are wondering? Two of this city councilor will run for re-election. They waste money this year. They will never do it next year. I mean as promise. If Waldi and Gibbon will be re-elected, they will give you 2 for 1 $.

"Independence Day, a.k.a. the Fourth of July, commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring our independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Red, white and blue adorn all decorations on that day which are the colors of our American flag thus patriotism should abound year around everywhere on the Fourth of July ... as it does on Marco Island."

And don't forget. It happened with the help of Germans and France people.

God bless America and others too.

"with the help of the Germans..."

I will assume that it did not include the Hessian troops in Trenton, NJ attacked by the Continental Army under the leadership of General Washington after crossing the Delaware River?

With regard to France, history has shown that the French have a slightly different view of liberty. Especially when you distinguish the French Revolution to the American Revolution,.... through today where France has burgeoned into a social democracy whilst America struggles with protecting individual freedom and limited governance.

With regard to 4th of July fundraising, I would like to see 100% funding through true citizen support and not support through tax revenue.

But then again, I like cities that address spending for needs, and have representation that distinguishes needs from wants.

I harken to the early 4th of July colonial celebrations of setting bonfires ablaze in the commons. All donations by citizens in the form of combustibles and the land truly deemed public property.

Imagine, Veterans Park set ablaze!

LOL
