I do not believe we have any chance of stopping the smokers from using the beach as an ashtray. They just can not resist plunking their cigarette butts into the sand. We finally got them out of the office, the restaurants and the beach should be next. Give them the choice to police themselves and clean up their butts. There is nothing worse than a beautiful walk down to the beach with your family on Sunday. You take the time to set up your chairs and umbrellas for your family to enjoy the day; only to find you have landed where a slob has smoked two packs of cigarettes the day before and used the beach as an ashtray. I have been involved in countless amounts of road and beach clean ups only to find our world littered with the garbage of others.
