skulljockey,

all I know about this subject is from the national and international free press. All reported about the dark side of this family strongly.
However in my opinion their is a related issue between the Second Amendment adopted December 15, 1791 along with the rest of the Bill of Rights and the present time. I guess it was never in the mind of the congress to give this right to non responsible alcoholic, drug dependent or psychological sick people. I guess it was a right to protect yourselves against outlaws, Indians (maybe)or criminal subjects. In this days America is packed with security agencies. It is not necessary anymore to give modern killing machines in the hand of non responsible people. In this days you have to profiling qualifications of weapon buyers.
I mean nobody can give guarantees to avoid massacres like that in Connecticut, Norway or Germany. But in the moment it is to easy to get deadly weapons in America. You see the massacre in Winnenden Germany was based on a family got weapons easy by the hobby of the father as hunter. The background of this family was terrible too. To get easy weapons is to stop.
More than 30 000 killings is a to big number. And the number of non responsible Americans is rising.

However Merry Christmas to you too and a safe year 2013 for you and your family.
