The problem are not NORMAL well functional citizens. The problem are the psychopaths, drugs- or alcohol dependent or the ugly out of control short-tempered people like 26.... or the messiah. Maybe liberator100 or islandeye. It is like the TSA concept. This concept is totally in-efficient. Profiling is the key word. Connecticut is the best example for that.

If you read the contemporary articles of 1946, you will gain a sense of the turmoil.
If you delve deep into the mindset of returning GI's that were being arrested by local law enforcement for a host of issues including drinking and mayhem, you can begin to get a glimpse into their perspective.
In essence, the Battle of Athens may have began with "alcohol dependent or the ugly out of control short=tempered people" GI's recently returning home from the war.
Interestingly, the heroes were this class of citizens, because they could distinguish between freedom and corruption even under the influence and had the wits about them to exercise their rights as noted in the 2nd Amendment.
If people believe a government could never turn on its people, then they chose to ignore history and the history of civilization.
I believe that is why the 2nd Amendment is so revered by Americans, irregardless of state of mind.
