As you point out from your experiences trouble in the "hood" as been going on since before the 1960's.

It should also be pointed out that "those idiots" are killing themselves in their own neighbor hoods in Fort Myers as per the news shows you mention. The old idiots have gone in time replaced by new faces.

For 100 plus years there had been some type of inter-city violence in the cities of America. From my upbringing, There has always been the "Bad part of town" no matter what year it is, no matter what color the people.

The questions today that need be asked are why? Why do gangs roam the streets armed? Why do you feel so threatened about something which as been going on your entire life? Drugs are a big problem in intercity neighborhoods.

Armed children, high school kids making $5,000 a week selling crack cocaine and heroin. What incentive do those kids have to go to school and become a working productive member of society?

Try thinking about being a 16-23 years old and making more money than anybody you know including the president, any president.

And all you have to do is sell drugs or pimp out the neighbors daughter who is hooked on heroin.

The questions are about why.. Will be be able to solve this problem as a country, I think not! Nixon's "War on Drugs" of the 1960's has failed. Nancy Reagan's "Just Say no" efforts of the 1980's also failed. At a cost to the American tax payer of over 1 trillion dollars.

Some how we need to come up with a way to take the profit of drugs off the streets. We need to change our thinking as a people to solve this problem, it's not going away!

In today's society one must always be alert of their surroundings. I learned when I was young, Don't be stupid and go to the hood after dark. If a person does that their just looking for trouble, drugs or hookers.

One more thing... Next time you read in the paper or see on TV another prostitution sting take a good look at the johns. You will find them to be white and over 50 years old.

If the prostitute can't find customers she can't afford drugs. It's just a vicious circle which feeds on itself.

Hating one segment of society solves nothing as this problem as been going on our life.
