I find the "hater" talk on this site to be so disheartening. We have multiple opportunities to enjoy the beauty that Marco Island has to offer and should be thankful for the privilege. When I drove across the bridge in early March and saw the "sign," it occurred to me that although it seemed harsh, it is also a statement of what is acceptable. As a property owner who is still employed "up north," I am grateful for my time on Marco, my ability to spend extended time in the summer, and for the many people of varying ages I have met. Making generalizations about the functionality of those over 70 is pointless. Not only is it untrue and disrespectful, but it is short sighted in terms of who generates tax revenue on the island, who provides valuable services, both paid and volunteer and who are our neighbors and friends. Rather than focus on age, focus on appropriate, respectful behavior.
