I referred to age because it seems to be a recurring theme of the residents of Marco Island. Some of the noisier complaints are from a small minority on the island that wish it were a gated, age-restricted community. That idea sank a very long time ago. Those same people complain about younger people coming to the island, for any reason. Their complaints are usually invalid as it's the 70 and over crowd cause the majority of the accidents on Marco and are driving while impaired - whether chemically (not just alcohol, but pharmaceutical as well) or physically. People of all ages move here for the same reason - it's a paradise. Those of us born and/or raised here have far more disdain for anyone that came here for any reason other than be a contributing part of the society, not a part-time resident or someone buying (forcing) their way into our life. My kids are true third generation Collier County residents. To read people maligning them really puts me out.
The problem with the sign is that it was in poor taste, more suitable ON THE BEACH itself.
