Martha J. Burke Adoration Chapel Opens at Ave Maria University CampusChapel in East Wing of Canizaro Library to Provide Daily Viewing of Blessed Sacrament
Dedication Ceremony Held Wednesday Following Noon Mass
Officials at Ave Maria University (AMU) are pleased to announce the opening of the Martha J. Burke Adoration Chapel. The chapel will be officially opened, blessed and dedicated at a short ceremony following Wednesday July 15, 2009 noon Mass at the Ave Maria Oratory.
Located in the east wing of AMU’s Canizaro Library, the Martha J. Burke Adoration Chapel will provide 24 hour-a-day access for perpetual Eucharistic adoration.
“For the Catholic faith, Eucharistic adoration is the act of praying or worshiping the Holy Eucharist which has been consecrated and therefore has Jesus Christ present in it,” says Fr. Robert Garrity, director of campus ministry for AMU. “We are extremely grateful to Mrs. Burke for donating the funds necessary to create this beautiful chapel and provide a place of solace and prayer for members of AMU and the surrounding community.”
A brief dedication ceremony and reverent ribbon cutting will be held immediately following the noon Mass today. Fr. Garrity, along with Ave Maria Oratory Pastor, Fr. Robert Tatman, will lead a procession from the Church to the chapel where the dedication activities will take place. Members of the community (as well as media) are welcome to attend.
