This was not the case for the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce annual Pig Roast, held Wednesday evening in conjunction with their May “Business After Five” gathering.
The pig’s goose was cooked, and he became the main course for the chamber members gathering to celebrate making it through another tourist season, and ready to kick back and relax a little. Laura Owen, head chef and general manager of CJ’s on the Bay, which hosted the event, said they put the hog on the cooker early in the morning and cooked all day.

</title><link>http://www.marconews.com/news/2012/may/07/photos-talk-derby-me-upon-star-foundation-passes-h/?partner=RSS</link><description>“Talk Derby to Me,” the annual fundraiser for the Upon a Star Foundation, was held Saturday at the Marco Island Brewery, with dozens of ladies attending in extravagant hats. Everybody had their bets down when, just after the Kentucky Derby started, the iconic horse race that “Talk Derby” is based around froze on the big screens surrounding the party, due to a malfunction of DirecTV.
Attendees yanked out their smartphones to discover the winner was, fittingly, “I’ll Have Another,” making Curt and Jacquie Koon winners. Cindy Hamilton won for best hat. MIB owner Frank LaCava donated the restaurant’s proceeds to the cause, and the event raised $30,000, said Upon a Star co-founder Howard Jordan. To support the work of the Upon A Star Foundation, call 239-272-3090 or go to www.uponastarfoundation.org.

</title><link>http://www.marconews.com/news/2012/may/06/photos-cinco-de-mayo-celebrated-north-south-and-ce/?partner=RSS</link><description>Sure, Cinco de Mayo is kind of an Americanized Mexican holiday, a much bigger deal north of the border. But never mind, it’s a great day have a party with your favorite señorita.
The parties were in full swing on Saturday, May 5 – the “cinco” in Cinco de Mayo. Nacho Mamas had the Marco Walk rockin’ with music from Starz, $4 Margaritas, and tacos for a buck. Margarita’s at the Town Center featured a mariachi band, and a full Mexican buffet. The Shops of Olde Marco at the island’s north end held a fiesta of their own, with a classic rock band, ‘muchas cervezas,’ and fish tacos from Lee Be Fish.

Frothy musical "The Boy Friend" offers delights aplenty, although the production itself can sometimes stumble - if only out of sheer joy.
