</title><link>http://www.marconews.com/news/2011/may/20/commentary-call-civility-though-internet-extremism/?partner=RSS</link><description>The 2010 midterm elections and the events in their wake were driven by extreme partisanship, arguably more intense and more widespread than the nation had previously experienced. If this trend continues, we will pay dearly over time.

When the Mackle Park Community Center opened in the 1980s the Island had 6,000 residents and the park had a limited number of programs. Since that time our Island has grown to more than 12,000 residents, with more families, residents and visitors using the community center now than ever before. As the existing Mackle Park Community Center continues to age and maintenance costs continue to rise, more and more events compete for the limited space the building and airnasium have to offer.

Jane Watt has deteriorated her cause to suiting the school district and attacking Lely. For this reason, I feel the need to put in my own two cents. A charter school should not be riding on a suit towards the very school district it wishes to receive funding and approval from. Nor should it be fueled by ignorance towards institutions they know nothing about.

The enormity of their effort is impossible to overstate.

November 2007: I’m named editor of the Eagle; we introduce a redesign, and change the Eagle to three times weekly. Many changes have followed since.

We also know, thanks to Florida open records laws that require transcripts of such meetings to be made public later, some members of council discussed strategies that may have contested the spirit, if not the letter, of those same public-access safeguards. Now, what to do?

A few individuals, who’d really like to see a high school there, are sad the dream may be dying.
Before I throw in my two cents, let me make a couple of things clear: I have no problem with the current plan; and I’m not against Marco Island getting a high school. In fact, I think Collier County should consider a performing arts high school for the island — one that could attract students from all over. The limited size of Tract K, or the like, would be perfect for a school that doesn’t require much in the way of athletics and Marco Island is the perfect community for such a school.

Heck, we haven’t even made it through discovery yet.
