In effort to spur development, council members gave final approval to a plan to transfer waterfront commercial density credits to any commercial property within the city’s Midtown District. A maximum of 200 credits could be transferred from one waterfront area to another area within the Midtown District to allow for one to two limited-use hotels with no more than 150 rooms. Planning officials reason that new hotels could stimulate re-development in the district and create a pedestrian friendly environment while ensuring that any development plans gain council approval before being built.

</title><link>http://www.marconews.com/news/2010/aug/04/farmer-file-no-brainer-marco-island-politics/?partner=RSS</link><description>There are few no-brainers in city politics. Nuance is king even when stiff-necked attitudes reign. Here’s one sure bet: Keep Jim Riviere as Marco Island’s permanent city manager, or at least as permanent as our roller coaster politics allow. Riviere has shown his mettle, merits, guts and lack of guile. I’ve never met him. We’ve never crossed swords, paths or words. He just does good things for Marco Island without hubris.

</title><link>http://www.marconews.com/news/2010/jul/15/panel-votes-delay-cra-two-years/?partner=RSS</link><description>Like a damp fuse, the proposal to create a Community Redevelopment Area, or CRA, in Marco Island’s commercial district sputtered along at a meeting Wednesday evening, not quite dying, but not catching fire, either.
Fourteen members of the CRA advisory panel met in the lobby of Iberia Bank on Bald Eagle Drive, to discuss alternatives, assess where to go from here, and solicit public comment. Not quite three dozen citizens showed up to listen or have their say. By the end of the meeting, members were questioning whether they should continue or disband, and the public comment voiced was strongly against forming the CRA.
