Follow me on Twitter and find out.</a></strong></p> <p>Most political junkies catch a plane to <strong><a href="http://washington.org/">Washington, D.C.</a></strong> for their fix. Not me.</p> <p>When picking a college, I chose to go to <strong><a href="http://www.drake.edu/"> Drake University</a></strong> in Des Moines, Iowa, because of the <strong><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_caucuses">Iowa Caucuses</a></strong>. There I learned how grassroots politics work in the heartland, saw the beginning and ending of presidential campaigns and recommended the milkshakes at the Drake Diner to Hillary Clinton.</p> <p>After college, I fled Des Moines for the slightly warmer climate of <strong><a href="http://sanduskyregister.com/"> Sandusky, Ohio</a></strong>, where I covered cops and a small lakefront community. But after 20-plus years of two seasons - winter and road construction - I decided in 2005 it was time to retire my sweaters and move south.</p> <p>I started at the Daily News in December 2005 as an education reporter. After a brief stint at the <strong><a href="http://www.marconews.com/">Marco Island Eagle</a></strong>, the political junkie in me reared its ugly head, and I took over the <strong><a href="http://naplesgov.com/">Naples</a></strong> city government reporter job in 2007.</p> <p>When I'm not hounding Naples Mayor Bill Barnett, I enjoy cooking, <strong><a href="http://www.goodreads.com/">reading</a></strong> and hanging out at the beach. Still a political junkie at heart, and I've already asked for a fancy touch screen television that <strong><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/22/arts/television/22king.html/">John King</a></strong> uses on CNN in advance of the 2012 presidential election.</p> <p><strong>Think covering City Hall sounds boring? Think again. Well, it's sort of true. Lopez has spent the past 25 years as a crossing guard for the city of Naples.</p> <p><strong><a href="http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2009/jun/27/holy-cow-could-chicago-cubs-ever-end-naples/">■ Holy cow! Could the Chicago Cubs ever end up in Naples?</a></strong> Could Naples be the new home of the Chicago Cubs spring training site?
