CAPE CORAL -- Already eliminated from postseason play, Barron
Collier High School got a peek at its future.
His name is Nick Caputo.
The sophomore quarterback, in his first career start, threw for
266 yards and one touchdown Friday night as the Cougars handily
defeated Cape Coral, 56-21.
With Caputo torching the Seahawks through the air, a familiar
face burned Cape Coral on the ground. Junior Moises Plancher rushed
for 157 yards and five touchdowns as the Cougars ended Cape Coral's
hopes of advancing in Class 5A District 12.
The BC victory clinched a playoff berth for Lely.
Caputo's touchdown came during a 42-point Cougar first half.
With BC up 7-0, Caputo, who was 13-of-26 on the night, looked like
he was going to be sacked but was able to get off an off-balance
side-armed pass. Tight end Brent Billingham was the recipient of
the 13-yard touchdown.
Plancher had TD runs of 7, 2, 3, 5 and 15 yards as the Cougars
improved to 5-4 on the season. Will Scrivens added 121 yards on
nine carries and scored two touchdowns.
