Local golf teams begin regional tourneys

Several local high schools send their golfers into action today with a chance to reach the state finals. Regional tournaments begin today throughout the state.

The FHSAA Golf Finals will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 and Wednesday Nov. 12 at the PGA Golf Village in Port St. Lucie and Fairwinds Golf Course in Fort Pierce.

The Class 2A Region 5 boys tournament begins at 11 a.m. at Serenoa Golf Course in Sarasota while the girls tournament begins at noon at Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club.

The Class A Region 6 boys tournament begins at 12:30 p.m. at Copperhead Golf Course in Lehigh Acres, while the girls tournament begins 10 a.m. at The Hideout Golf Course in Naples.

The top four teams and top four individual scorers from non-qualifying teams in each district advance to the regional level.

The Gulf Coast and Barron Collier boys teams qualified for the Class 2A Region 5 tournament, as well as indivdual qualifiers Josh Marzucco and Ben Hoban of Naples.

The Community School and St. John Neumann boys teams qualified for the Class A Region 6 tournament.

In the Class 2A Region 5 girls tournament, the Barron Collier, Naples, Estero and Gulf Coast teams all qualified. The St. John Neumann and Community School girls teams both qualified for the Class A Region 6 tournament.
