Editorial: Naples City Council ... Wiseman's tart assessment of agenda items is right on

Commenting in advance of this week's Naples City Council meetings, council member Tamela Wiseman cited two agenda items as wastes of time. Silly government. Annoying.

She was sooooo right.

Acting on an ordinance for children to hold front-yard lemonade sales without a business license is a waste of time. The way to avoid public embarrassments like this summer's hassles with Avigayil Wardein is for neighbors and law-enforcement officers to use their heads.

The so-called monkey protection law, which slipped on a banana peel when it came up last December, is back. It gives the city the right to round up wild squirrel monkeys and move them for their own safety. Or is it for the safety of developers who find monkeys in their way?

Maybe "tricky" should be added to Wiseman's size-up of these two items as wastes of time, silly and annoying.
