Karl Drews holds kids flea market
A flea market just for kids will be hold from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 8, at Karl Drews Community Center on Lee Road. For $2 a table, kids can sell their wares, discards or no-longer-needed treasures and make a little spending money. For more information and to reserve a table, call 267-2181. Koreshan tours highlight Dr. Teed
Koreshan State Historical Site's ranger-guided walking tours at 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays highlight Dr. Cyrus Teed, a Civil War surgeon who founded the settlement. He received much attention with his strong beliefs in the equality of men and women, celibacy and communal living. He founded the Koreshan Unity in Chicago, but as membership grew he chose Lee County as the location for his utopian dream. Eleven of the original buildings are preserved in the park. The second Estero-South Fort Myers Lions Club Garage Sale, Let's Make A Deal, runs from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Estero United Methodist Church. There will be deals on everything from furniture to sporting equipment to children's items. There will also be a bake sale. If you have items to donate for sale, drop them off after 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the church parking lot. All proceeds benefit the club's charities and community service projects.

Jr. Ranger program on tap at Koreshan
Koreshan State Historic Site is offering the State of Florida Junior Ranger Program for children 5 to 12. There are several different activities within this self-guided program, and when completed, participants receive a Junior Ranger Badge and certificate. Entrance fee to the park is $3.25 per car, but the program is free. Youngsters must be accompanied by an adult; comfortable shoes are recommended along with a pencil and plenty of water. No reservations are necessary; for special needs, call 992-0311.
Estero library forms support organization
Those interested in becoming part of the Friends of South Lee County Regional Library should attend a meeting at the Three Oaks Parkway Library from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the library's meeting room. The not-for-profit organization's goal will be to work to promote, support and enhance library services. A first event for the newly organized group will be a book sale Saturday, Dec. 13. Investment seminars offered for retirees
Two investment seminars will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the Florida Gulf Coast University Naples Center, or Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the FGCU Student Union, Room 213. The seminars are geared for those in the early stages of retirement planning or very close to retirement, affluent investors, and those serious about gaining money management knowledge. Smart Growth event open to public Nov. 7 The fourth annual Smart Growth Symposium will be held from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in the FGCU Student Union Ballroom. The topic is "Who's in the Driver's Seat? Planning Process vs. Politics." The public is invited to attend.
Fashion show set
The Lee Republican Women Federated's annual luncheon and fashion show will be held beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at The Estero Country Club at The Vines. Reading service seeks volunteers
The WGCU WMKO Radio Reading Service, a service of Florida Gulf Coast University, needs volunteer readers. The service brings printed materials to the blind or physically handicapped person via special live radio broadcasts. Eighty-five dedicated volunteers read the local and national newspapers, magazines and articles to more than 1,300 listeners. Readers are asked to call RRS manager Glenn Sabatka at 590-2530 for an application.
