Clean Air & Allied Supply wins Blue Chip award

Katherine Tarrant was undergoing chemotherapy when she bought Clean Air & Allied Supply, a supplier of air filtration, chemicals, janitorial and moving supplies, in 1989. Warehouse- style giants sold similar products at steep discounts, but Clean Air shines today because of Tarrant's keen understanding of her customers and the local market.

So said judges of the Blue Chip awards. Given by Fort Myers- based insurance company Oswald Trippe and Co., the award recognizes companies that overcome obstacles to succeed.

Tarrant has had two hip replacements since buying her business, and her daughter is awaiting a kidney transplant.

Fort Myers-based Priority Marketing and Teri Hansen won the Blue Chip award in Lee County.
