Collier to consider alternative middle school zoning plan

Collier County school officials will return to the Naples Park community with their middle school rezoning proposal, which shifts students from three Naples middle schools into the new North Naples Middle, opening in August.

School Board members on Thursday instructed staff to consider a parents' alternative proposal.

Parents suggested the district keep one area, which is south of Immokalee Road and around the Airport-Pulling Road area, zoned for Pine Ridge, instead of shifting those students into the new school.

An area of Naples Park could compensate: Those students could attend the new school, instead of Pine Ridge. That way all the kids from Pelican Marsh Elementary would go to Pine Ridge Middle and the kids from Naples Park Elementary would attend North Naples Middle.

"I am in favor of that community proposal," member Kathleen Curatolo said.

District staff will hold public meetings for Naples Park residents, and then bring back the rezoning proposal before the board at their Dec. 18 meeting.
